The Lady Mavericks surprised a lot of people with a second place finish in the conference last season. First year coach, Jamie Ellis stepped in the head coaching position after two games. Ellis brings back four out of five starters next year. The Mavs lose Juliana Lombard, all-conference selection and Marvin Ridge’s only inside presence. They however add highly touted freshman Noble Tsumas to a solid core. Megan Glover was 3rd Team All-UCHoops and All-SCC selection, returns after leading the way in the scoring column with 10.2 ppg as a junior. Rising junior guard, Sarah Hardwick, played out of position at point guard last season and could flourish if Tsumas can relieve some of that role. Hardwick (8.2 ppg/3.3 rpg/1.3 apg) is a slasher who can finish around the basket and also knock down the open jumper. Senior Ava Fox (6.2 ppg/3.3 rpg) had a nice junior campaign, as she was a factor on the offensive boards, but could also step out and hit the open shot. The Lady Mavs did a great job of holding opponents to low scoring games. If they can get teams playing that slow down, low scoring style of game, they should have another winning season. The Mavs will open the season hosting Ardrey Kell on Nov. 14th.
