    Miller's replacement is announced

    Marshall Smith has been named the girls basketball coach according to first-year Athletic Director Tom Jamerson. Smith is replacing Dwight Miller, who coached the team to a 7-14 record last season (2-8 in the SouthernCarolina Conference). Smith has spent the past two seasons as an assistant for the Weddington Middle School girls team, which piled up a 32-1 record in 2012. Smith has also coached a year-round team (Union County Comets) and has more than a decade of service as a youth girls coach.

      Former UCHOOPS P.O.Y transfers to UNCW

      Forward Jordan Henry from Iona has transferred to UNCW to play women’s basketball, UNCW Head Coach Adell Harris recently announced. Henry, a versatile 6-foot-3-inch performer, joins the Seahawks after playing her freshman season for the Gaels of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Per NCAA transfer rules, she will sit out the 2013-14 season and resume her career in 2014-15 with three years of eligibility remaining. Jordan Henry has returned to North Carolina after one season with Iona’s Gaels. “Jordan is a talented shooter with great range,” said Harris. “Her versatility and size will help us on both ends of the floor. More importantly, Jordan is a great fit for our locker room. She has outstanding character and believes in my vision for UNCW women’s basketball.” A native of Waxhaw, Henry played in 16 games in 2012-13 and helped the Gaels post a 20-13 record and advance to the WNIT, where they fell to Colonial Athletic Association champion Drexel in the opening round. Henry averaged 4.2 minutes per game and finished with 10 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks.
