2017-18 Conference realignment

The 2017-18 boys basketballl season will bring change to Union Co. rivalries along with conferences. 4A Porter Ridge will stay in the SW4A conference but will see Hickory Ridge join the confernece.

Southwestern 4A: Porter Ridge, Myers Park, Butler, East Meck, Garinger, Hickory Ridge, Independence, Rocky River, Myers Park

The 3A Southern Carolina Conference will see a lot of changes with Monroe and Parkwood move into the SCC and by moving up a class from 2A to 3A and Charlotte Catholic drops down from the So. Meck 4A. Parkwood was 7-3 in the Rocky River and Monroe was 6-4 last year. Catholic finished 16-12 last season and 10-4 in their old conference. Anson Co. moves down to the 2A Rocky River. Weddington won the SCC last season and reached the 3rd round of the state 3A state playoffs. With those additions, the SCC will be one of the toughest conferences in North Carolina.

3A SCC: Marvin Ridge, Monroe, Parkwood, Piedmont, Sun Valley, Weddington, Charlotte Catholic

The Rocky River Conference is where you see a lot of change with Forest Hills, C.A.T.A., West Stanly and Mt. Pleasant all staying in the Rocky River. They will be joined by with Anson Co. dropping down from the 3A SCC and East Montgomery moving in from the 1A Yadkin Valley Conference, Monroe and Parkwood moving up to the 3A SCC.

2A Rocky River: Forest Hills, Anson Co. CATA, East Montgomery, Mt. Pleasant, West Stanly

Union Academy moves over to the 1A PAC-7 from the 1A Yadkin Valley where they were 3-5 in 2016. Mt. Island Charter and Pine Lake Prep move in from the Southern Piedmont. The Cardinals were 5-5 in Uwharrie conference and the Cardinals Coach Raines was boys Coach of the Year.

1A Southern Piedmont: Union Academy, Bessemer City, Cherryville, Community School of Davidson, Mountain Island Charter, Pine Lake Prep, Highland Tech, Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy.
