2013-14 BOYS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

The 2013-14 UnionCountyHoops.com’s Boys Player of the Year is Weddington’s Brandon Watts.

Brandon Watts helped lead the Weddington Warriors to a 27-3 overall record and into the ELITE 8 of the 3A state playoffs.

Brandon ranked in the top 10 of all 5 categories this season in Union County. Brandon was 8th in Union Co. in scoring with a 14.1 ppg average as a Senior. Brandon had a career high of 32 points in a win over Porter Ridge. Brandon had 9 double doubles this season. Brandon grabbed 8.0 rpg which was good for 5th in Union Co. He grabbed a season high of 12 rebounds 4 times. Watts also averaged 3.0 assists per game which was good enough for 8th in Union Co. that included a season high 9 assists in a win over Cuthbertson.

Brandon averaged 2.5 steals per game and he led Union Co. with 2.7 blocks that included 8 blocks in a win over Sun Valley. Watts' was named player of the week 2 times this season as well as being named to the ALL-UnionCountyHoops.com's 1st team and he was named ALL-SCC and SCC Player of the Year for 2013-2014. Brandon is the all-time leader in blocks with 193 in 3-yeas at Weddington.

Brandon would go on to play basketball at UNC-Pembroke and professionally in Ireland.

Stephanie Watts (W)

2013-14 GIRLS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

The 2013-14 UnionCountyHoops.com’s Girls Player of the Year is Weddington’s Stephanie Watts.

Stephanie Watts helped lead the Weddington Lady Warriors to a 25-5 overall record and into the ELITE 8 of the 3A state playoffs. Stephanie was 3rd in Union Co. in scoring with a 21.8 ppg average as a Junior. Ms. Watts became WEDDINGTON'S ALL-TIME WOMEN'S SCORER. Stephanie recorded her 2nd Quadruple-Double of her career with 25 points, 12 assists, 11 steals and 10 rebounds in a win over C.A.T.A. Stephanie recorded 5 Triple-Doubles in 2013-2014.

Stephanie dished out 4.6 assists per game this season with a season high of 12 in a win over Piedmont. Stephanie grabbed an average of 9.9 rebounds and grabbed a season high 18 in a win over Forest Hills.

Watts also averaged 5.3 steals and 3.0 blocks as a Junior. Stephanie ranked in the top 5 of all 5 categories this season in Union County. She was named player of the week 7 times this season as well as being named to the ALL-UnionCountyHoops.com's 1st team for the 3rd year in a row. She was named ALL-SCC and SCC Player of the Year for the 3rd straight year.
