Former UCHOOPS Player of the Year headed down under!

Sun Valley’s Shaun Stewart will fulfill a lifetime dream of getting paid to play basketball. Stewart, a 2012 Sun Valley graduate has signed a professional contract with Mandurah Magic in the State Basketball League based in Mandurah, Western Australia. Stewart announced the new via his Facebook account.

Stewart was a four-year starter for Keith Mason at Sun Valley. Stewart was named UnionCountyHoops.com’s Player of the Year and SCC Player of the Year both junior and senior year. Shaun was also named All-Region his senior year. Stewart was named All-Conference 3 years at Sun Valley. Stewart currently holds the Union Co. record for points in a career (1980) and points in a game (45 vs. Anson Co.).

Stewart played for North Carolina A&T as a freshman (2012-13) and appeared in 12 games for the Aggies. He scored a career-high seven points against Iowa State and helped the Aggies to finish 20-17 and were the postseason champions of the MEAC.

Shaun transferred to Cloud Community College as a sophomore (2013-14) and helped Cloud County to a 16-15 record and scored 651 points with 93 assists and 174 rebounds. Stewart scored at least 20 points 16 times and averaged 21.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game while being named first-team all-conference and second-team all-region. Shaun scored a career-high 37 points against Garden City Community College (1/25/14).

Shaun moved on to Youngstown State as a junior (2014-15) and played in 32 games with three starts. He shot 34.2 percent from the field (52-of-152) and shot 69.2 percent from the free-throw line (18-of-26) while grabbing 65 rebounds and dished out 36 assists and added four blocks and 10 steals.

Stewart found his way back to NC with Limestone College for his senior year (2015-16) and started all 33 games he played in. He shot 49.0 percent from the field (266-of-543) and set a new career record in points per game (22.0 ppg) and set new single-season records in points (725), points per game (22.0), field goals made (266), field goals attempted (543), games played (33) and games started (33). Stewart shot 78.9 percent from the free-throw line (112-of-142) tallied 154 rebounds, 107 assists, 14 blocks and 35 steals.
