Played varsity basketball at Marvin Ridge High School for head coach Gosnell White. John was a 3-year starter and scored 1,475 career points and pulled down 570 rebounds. As a senior John averaged 30.4 points per game and is the first Union County player to average at least 30 points in a season in the modern era (since UC public schools desegregated in 1967). John was named 1st team All-UCHOOPs and All- SCC as a junior and senior. John has the 2nd most points scored in a season with 761 and second most points scored in a game with 44 in a 101-82 win over Central Cabarrus. John was selected to play in the 17th annual Carolinas All-Star Basketball Classic. His 4-year average a Marvin Ridge is 17.4 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game d is Marvin Ridge’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder.
As a sophomore for the Black Knights, John Emezie is averaging 9.5 points per game for Division I Army. Emezie (6-6, 215), a sophomore, has scored in double figures nine times this season, including a career-high 20 in a loss to Colgate on Jan. 11. Emezie has made a big jump from his freshman season, when he averaged 3.2 points in 11.8 minutes per game. He’s playing an average of 22.5 minutes per game this season. Currently Emezie is shooting 37.5 percent from 3-point range and 82.1 percent from the free throw line this season.
As a freshman at Army John saw action in 33 games as a freshman making six consecutive starts beginning against Colgate on Jan. 13. During that stretch John compiled 104 points, 39 rebounds, 20 assists, five steals, and eight blocks on the year. He averaged 3.2 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game for the season. He scored a season-high 11 points vs. Boston U. on Jan. 27, where he went 4-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.
