Chase Lowe (W)

2021-22 BOYS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

The 2021-20 UnionCountyHoops.com’s Boys Player of the Year is Weddington's Chase Lowe. Lowe finished his senior year 4th in Union Co. with a 17.1 ppg average and a season high 27 points in a 72-65 win over Ardrey Kell. Lowe finished 3rd in Union Co. rebounding with an 8.1 average and grabbed a season high 13 rebounds vs. Ardrey Kell. Lowe finished 3rd in assists with a 4.3 assists per game with a season high 8 assists in a win over Cannon HS. Chase finished 4th in Union Co. in steals 2.7 steals per game with a season high 7 steals vs. Cox Mill and 1.0 blocks per game for Coach Ellington and the Warriors.

For the 4th straight year Chase was named 1st team ALL-UCHOOPS.com & All-SCC while being named SCC Player of the Year for a third year in a row. Chase was named UnionCountyHoops.com's Player of the Week 4 times during the 2021-22 season. Lowe was named MVP of the 4A State Title game while earning All-District and District Player of the Year. Chase finished his 4-year career at Weddington as the school’s all-time leading scorer, rebounder, assists and steals, setting all of those records this season.

Chase finishes his career as Union County’s 6th all-time leading scorer (1671 Points), 3rd all-time rebounder (888 rebounds), 1st all-time in assists (468 assists) and 2nd in all-time steals (272 steals). Chase helped lead the Warriors to a 31-0 record, a SCC Conference title, SCC Conference Tournament title and a 4A State Championship. Lowe is the first 3-time winner of the boys UnionCountyHoops.com's Player of the Year.

Ruby Williams (CU)

2021-22 GIRLS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

The 2021-22 UnionCountyHoops.com’s Girls Player of the Year is Cuthbertson's Ruby Williams. Ms. Williams finished the 2021-22 season leading Union Co. in scoring with a 20.4 ppg average. Ruby scored in double figures 18 times including a career high 35 points in a win over Sun Valley.

Ruby grabbed a career high 15 rebounds in a 50-37 win over W. Cabarrus on her way to a 5.5 rebound average for the season. Ms. Williams dished out 1.7 assists per game and 2.2 steals per game for the Cavaliers including a season high six steals in the 49-37 win over Union Academy. This season Ruby expanded her scoring game to beyond the 3-point line where she shot 35% from beyond the arch.

Ruby was named 1st Team All-UnionCountyHoops, All-SCC and SCC Player of the Year along with being named All-District.

Ruby was named UnionCountyHoops.com's Player of the Week four times during the season and helped lead the Cuthbertson Cavaliers to a 19-8 record, a second-place finish in the SCC, the SCC Tournament Title & into the 1st round of the state playoffs.

Ruby is the 6th Cavalier to join the 1000-point finishing with 1088 points. Ruby is headed to Cornell University to continue her academic and basketball career.
