The 2024-25 UnionCountyHoops.com’s Boys Player of the Year is Weddington's KJ Younger. KJ had an outstanding senior year helping to lead the Weddington Warriors to a 23-6 record, SCC Title, SCC Tournament Title and advanced to the 3rd Round of the 4A State playoffs for Coach Ellington.
KJ led all of Union Co. in scoring with a 25.0 points per game average while averaging 8.7 rebounds per game, dished out 2.9 assists per game and added 1.8 steals per game. Younger scored in double figures in every game this season including a season high 38 points in a 68-64 win over Cuthbertson. KJ recorded a career high 18 rebounds along with 21 points in a 68-55 1st RD playoff win over Cox Mill. Younger scored 20+ points in 22 games this season for the Warriors.
Younger set a Weddington school record for points in a season with 699 points which broke the school record he set last season with 665 points. Youngers 699 points this season is the 5th best scoring season in Union Co. history. KJ was named UCHoops Player of the Week 7 times during the 2024-25 season as well as being named the SCC Player of the Year, All-SCC for the 2nd year in a row. Younger was named District Player of the Year and 1st team All-district and 3rd Team All-State.
KJ is headed to UNC-Greensboro to continue his academics and basketball career.
