The 2012-13 UnionCountyHoops.com’s Player of the Year is Cuthbertson's Shelton Mitchell.

Shelton helped lead the Cuthbertson Cavaliers to a 29-4 overall record and a Rocky River Conference Title with an 13-1 record. The Cavaliers made it to the 2A State Championship game.Shelton finished the 2012-13 as Union Co.'s 2nd leading scorer by averaging 20.1 ppg.

Shelton grabbedd an average of 3.7 rebounds per game. Shelton dished out 4.3assits per game which was 5th in Union Co. and averaged 2.2 steals a game for the Cavaliers. Shelton is 4th all-time in scoring with 1654 points and set a Union Co. record for points in a season with 773 points scored as a sophomore.

Shelton was named Player of the Week 5 times during the season. Shelton was named to the ALL-UnionCountyHops.com's 1st team for the 3rd time.

Shelton would go on to play basketballat Vanderbilt and Clemson.

The 2012-13 UnionCountyHoops.com’s Girls Player of the Year is Weddington’s Stephanie Watts.

Stephanie Watts helped lead the Weddington Lady Warriors to a 21-7 overall record and into the 2nd round of the state 3A playoffs. Stephanie led Union Co. in scoring with a 22.1 ppg average as a sophomore. Ms. Watts SET A UNION CO. SINGLE GAME SCORING RECORD OF 50 POINTS vs. Cuthberton. Stephanie recorded a quadruple-double with 20 points, 10 assists, 12 steals and 11 rebounds in a win over Cox Mill. Stephanie dished out 3.4 assists per game this season with a season high of 10 in a win over Cox Mill. Stephanie grabbed an average of 9.9 rebounds including a season high 23 in a win over Forestview.

Ms. Watts also averaged 5.5 steals and 2.4 blocks as a Sophomore. Stephanie ranked in the top 10 over all 5 categories this season in Union County. Stephanie surpassed the 1000 point plateau as a sophomore. She was named player of the week 3 times this season as well as being named to the ALL-UnionCountyHoops.com's 1st team for the 2nd year in a row.
