The Mavericks made a late season run before falling in the SCC tournament title game and made the state playoffs. They return 3 of the best guards in Union Co. in seniors Cinjun Bridges Josh Clark and junior Brady Dunn. Clark led the Mavericks in scoring (12.7 ppg) and 2nd in rebounding (4.1 rpg) along with 2.6 apg while being named 2nd team All-UCHoops and All-SCC. Bridges (11.5 rpg/2.9 rpg/1.8 apg/34% from 3) was named 3rd team All-UCHoops and Dunn (11.0 ppg/2.0 apg/45% from 3) was the UCHoops Newcomer of the Year last season. Sophomore Marshall Payne (3.6 ppg/34% from 3), who played and started at times as a freshman will need to contribute more for the Mavs. Keep an eye on junior center Nolan Rienks he’s 6’6 and a strong rim protector and rebounder, which Coach Haines and the Mavs will need. The Mavericks open the 2023-24 season at Catawba Ridge on Nov. 28th.
